Sections 1 - Salinas Valley 1930

Salinas Valley in the 1930's

The Salinas Valley was a big agricultural place and had lots of farms and ranches for people to work on.  Most of the people who worked on these farms and ranches lived in camps or trailers.  Many of the workers who lived in camps were immigrants.  The Dust Bowl in the South caused for a bad planting season and it made lots of people leave their homes in the Southern Plains.  Most of them moved West.  The Salinas Valley was one of the places they went.  It became over crowded and and everyone was looking for jobs.  This would impact George and Lennie in the book because it would be hard for them to find a job if everyone was looking for a job.
